“Why would I need a doula?”-
If you were to ask me on the surface, I would say long and short…. you don’t you are infinitely capable of taking care of yourself and family.
If you were to really ask me, I would say-
Because life is a chronic condition. You have stretches of time that pass without fan fair and others that threaten to consume you and make you feel lonely and overwhelmed in a silent disco. You can’t control life. Even the greatest miracles carry a heavy responsibility, and when that happens and you feel your chest tightening and and your heads in a fishbowl, you find yourself struggling to juggle your balls made of glass. You call your doula because people are infinitely capable of doing amazing things they never believed possible when someone believes in them and reminds them why everything feels so big over and over until it doesn’t. I get to have the amazing job of just being in the room when you realize just how capable you are, and then do that again over and over again for the rest of your life changes. Pregnancy, postpartum, reproductive education and care
When you are sick, you call the doctor. When you are being sued, you call a lawyer. My hope is that it becomes just as acceptable to have a transitional season in life and call a doula to help you.
